Eco Garden Rooms Ireland
“Eco” gets attached to a lot of garden buildings that are really just timber sheds with a bit of insulation. Ours is a specific claim: every garden room we build is BER A-rated, made from structural insulated panels in a factory, clad in sustainably sourced Canadian red cedar, triple glazed, and cheap enough to heat that most customers run it on a single small panel heater through the winter. Here is what that means in practice, and what it costs.

What makes a garden room eco?
The panels. We build in SIPs (structural insulated panels): a thick core of rigid insulation bonded between two structural boards. The panel is the wall, the structure and the insulation in one piece. There are no studs for heat to leak through and far fewer joints to seal, which is why SIP buildings are so airtight. See SIPs vs timber frame for the comparison.
The energy rating. Airtight walls plus triple glazing gives a BER A rating as standard. That is the same band as a new-build house, not a typical garden cabin. Read how we insulate for year-round use.
The running cost. Most customers heat the room with a 1–2kW panel heater, typically €1–€2 per working day in winter. If you work from home, heating one well-insulated room instead of the whole house usually pays for itself.
The cladding. Canadian red cedar is a slow-growing softwood that is naturally rot- and insect-resistant, so it needs no chemical treatment and lasts decades. It is sourced from managed forests. Why we use cedar.
The build. Floors, walls and roof are cut and made in the factory to exact sizes. Off-cuts are managed there, not dumped in your garden. On site the build takes five working days with a concrete and galvanised steel foundation system that needs minimal excavation.
The roof. A Firestone roofing membrane with a 50-year guarantee. The longer a building lasts, the smaller its footprint.
Solar. Solar panels can be fitted to the roof at the design stage, feeding the room or the house. Ask about it at your site visit.

Planning permission
Garden rooms up to 30m² are exempt from planning permission in most cases, provided the height, siting and garden-coverage conditions are met and the room is not used for sleeping. All four standard sizes above are within that limit. See the planning permission guide and our 30m² planning-exempt garden rooms update.
What can an eco garden room be used for?
A garden office, a home gym, a studio, a treatment room, a family room or a quiet place to read. Because the room is BER A-rated, it is comfortable to use every day of the year, not just in summer. Browse our garden rooms range.
