Dalkey Garden Room – 5 x 3 Metres
This bespoke 5 x 3 metre garden room in Dalkey was designed to create a modern, high-performance space that could be used comfortably all year round. Set within a mature South Dublin garden, the brief was to deliver a contemporary garden room that felt architectural in quality, visually understated, and seamlessly connected to the outdoor setting.
The finished build delivers a refined, insulated garden room that functions as both a practical workspace and a calm retreat, offering a smart alternative to a traditional home extension.
The Brief
The client wanted a premium garden room that would provide additional living space without compromising the garden itself. The room needed to be suitable for daily use as a home office, while also offering flexibility as a relaxation space in the evenings.
Given the Dalkey setting, it was important that the design felt modern and elegant rather than utilitarian. Clean lines, high-quality finishes, and strong energy performance were key priorities, along with privacy and natural light.
Design & Build Details
Large sliding glass doors were installed at the front of the building, allowing light to flood the interior and creating a strong visual connection with the landscaped garden. When open, the space naturally extends onto the paved patio area, enhancing the sense of openness.
The structure was built using high-performance SIP panels, delivering excellent airtightness and insulation. As a result, this garden room achieves a BER A rating, ensuring outstanding energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and low running costs throughout the year.
Year-Round Performance
This Dalkey garden room was designed for genuine all-season use. High levels of insulation, quality glazing, and precision construction mean the space remains warm in winter and cool in summer, without relying on excessive heating or cooling.
Unlike traditional sheds or lightweight garden buildings, this structure performs more like a permanent extension, offering durability, comfort, and long-term value. The build was completed on-site in a matter of days, with minimal disruption to the existing garden.
How the Space Is Used
